Help with this one math question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ganeshie8 @Callisto

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@.Sam. @Blaze

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

use the hint

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

\(\large (g o \color{red}{f})(-1) = g(\color{red}{f(-1)}) \)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

find \(\color{red}{f(-1)}\) first

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

\(\color{red}{f(-1)} \) = (-1)^2 + 7 = ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

8

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Yes, \(\color{red}{f(-1)} \) = 8

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

put this value above

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

\(\large (g o \color{red}{f})(-1) = g(\color{red}{f(-1)}) \) \( = g(8)\) \(= ?\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i fill it in?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

wat is \(g(x)\) ?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

to find g(8), u just need to put 8 for x in g(x)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

\(\large g(x) = \frac{x-4}{x}\) \(\large g(8) = \frac{8-4}{8}\) simplify

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would the top line be 4? so would it turn into 4/8 and then a 1/2?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

Yes !

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

good work !!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks :) so is that the answer?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yup ! thats the answer ! go thru the method again, make sure u can do it by urself... cuz these composite functions never leave us... the keep showing up everywhere... good luck :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks! so how should i write that in my answer box?

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

that im not sure, may be put 1/2, or 0.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thanks!!!

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

np :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you mind helping with one more? It's my last question! @ganeshie8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Find the first three iterates of f(x)=-3x-7 if x0=-8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The zero is lower than the x btw

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

okay, recursion !

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

to find first iterate, find the \(f(x_0)\) First iterate :- \( f(x)=-3x-7 \) \(x_1 = f(-8)=-3(-8)-7 = 24-7 = 17\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh i figured it out!! It's like this right?? x1 = f( - 8) = (-3) . (-8) - 7 = 24 - 7 = 17 x2 = f( 17) = - 51 -7 = - 58 x3 = f( - 58) = (-3) . (-58) - 7 = 174 - 7= 167

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

For second iterate, you must find \(f(x_1) = f(17) \)

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

perfect !!! very good work !!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks!! :D

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

you're wlcme =))
