calculating average velocity

OpenStudy (anonymous):

After t seconds the displacement, s(t), of a particle moving rightwards along the x-axis is given (in feet) by s(t) = 5t2 −8t+2. Determine the average velocity of the particle over the time interval [1, 2].

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think you are supposed to compute \[\frac{f(2)-f(1)}{2-1}\] maybe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is the answer 7 ft/sec ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@satellite73 yeah that's what I used.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

since the denominator is conveniently 1, this amount to \(s(2)-s(1)\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

looks like 7 is right \(s(2)=6,s(1)=-1\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

great. thank you!
