Artists tend not to use symmetrical balance in their artwork simply because, well, it's boring to look at. The eye is drawn to what one is not used to; therefore, asymmetrical balance, a focal point not in the center of the composition, exaggerated object size, and use of negative space rather than positive are all different ways an artist will use to create a good composition.
