Linux is an example of many things, including but not limited to: An Operating System (piece of software that runs on your computer to run other software) A development platform (another term for operating system meaning that applications are built specifically to run on it.) An Open Source project (meaning that the source code is available freely for anyone to modify) A family of distributions (known as distros, each of these are focused on either making linux easy to use or adding specific features) A list of common distros: Ubuntu, Fedora, Mandriva, SUSE, Puppy Linux, DSL, Minix, BackTrack, Yellow Dog, etc. Google is your friend if you want more information, good day! :D
