Determine if the graph is symmetric about the x-axis, the y-axis, or the origin. r = -5 - 5 cos θ
The graph is symmetric about the x-axis.
Yeah, @John_ES is correct. It is symmetric with respect to x-axis. :) |dw:1378865808642:dw|
May you explain how, if you do not mind.
the graph is a cardioid since it has in a form of r = a (1+cosx) this happens when we factor out -5 in the equation, therefore r = -5 (1+cosx) using the quadrantal angles to substitute the values for r, we get if x is equal to 0 r = 0 pi/2 r = -5 3pi/2 r = -5 2pi r = 0 as we plot it, we can conclude that it is symmetric with respect to x-axis. Do you get it @Loveiskey18 ??
somewhat. I'll have to go over it when I'm not rushing. Do you mind if I post that last problem I needed help with, it's quite similar to the previous one.
Okay. :)
