What is an equation of the line, in point-slope form, that passes through the given point and has the given slope? [Image with choices below] I got 3x-y-32=0 but it isn't a choice, what am I doing wrong?
point slope form is a specific form (the same as your choices) \[ y - y_1 = m(x - x_1) \]
I don't know how to get it into the correct form
the m stands for slope (who knows why they use "m" for slope) \( (x_1,y_1) \) stands for a *known* point now match what you know to the formula y - y_1 = m(x - x_1) replace the m with the slope replace x1 with the x value from (8,-8) (the first number) replace y1 with the y value from (8,-8) can you do that ?
y-(-8)=3(x-8)?
so it is y + 8 = 3 (x – 8)?
all you have to do is replace the letters with the correct numbers yes that looks good. notice that y - (-8) is the same as y + 8 (two -'s make a +)
hmm I got you
yes. It is not too hard....
thanks so much @phi
