Part 1: Prove the triangles are similar. Part 2: Determine the height of the house

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

It is given that the angles on either side of mirror are congruent, so we have one congruent Angle pair. Also, the angles at foot of house and Annie are right angles, each equal to 90. so we have a second congruent Angle pair. Thus, by AA similarity the two triangles in hte diagram are similar.

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

for Part2, you must setup an useful proportion

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for step 2 whta?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

*what

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

when we have similar triangles, wat we do ? we setup proportions !

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

:) lets try to setup some useful proportion, which gives us the height of house

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so figures that have the same shape are similar

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and similar figures are congruent

OpenStudy (anonymous):

congruent angles

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and matching sides are proportional ... thats what i know

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

\(\large \large \frac{5}{4} = \frac{x}{15}\) solve x, x is the height of building

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=18.75

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

yes !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yay!!! thank you!

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

:)
