(x-5)^5 expand the following using either the binomial theorem or pascals triangle

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

I gather you know either?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i dont

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

ok,, then you may want to check http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pSD8cYyqUo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay i watched, what is the answer?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

\(\bf (x-5)^5 \\\implies x^5+\square x^4(-5^1)+\square x^3(-5^2)+\square x^2(-5^3)+ \square x^1(-5^4)+(-5^5)\) notice the exponents, for the 1st term are DESCENDING from 5 down to 0 for the 2nd term are ASCENDING, from 0 to 5 from there you can get the coefficients

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what do the boxes represent???
