like can someone help me work through it so i can understand it?

Well, all the equations are lines in slope-intercept form, right? So they are all in the form y=mx + b. And for a linear equation in the form: y=mx + b, the "b" is the y-intercept. That is, b= the y coordinate, when x=0. So first of all, look at the table. What should your y-intercept be? What number should you be looking for in the "b" position of the equation?

OpenStudy (debbieg):

That will let you narrow down the choices to 2 of the 4. Then, the only difference in the 2 equations is the slope, m. Notice that the 2 remaining choices have one with positive slope (m>0) and one with negative slope (m<0). Remember, m is POSITIVE if x and y change in the SAME direction.... that means, as x increases, y increases. and m is NEGATIVE if x and y change in OPPOSITE directions.... that means, as x increases, y DEcreases. so look at the table and decide if x and y are changing in the SAME direction (positive slope) or opposite directions (negative slope).
