derivatives and summation. if i'm trying to find the derivative of the sum(i=1 to n) of a_i (x). would the derivative be the sum(i=1 to n) of a_i?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes exactly. The derivative of the sum is the sum of the derivatives. So it would be sum(i=1 to n) of derivative of a_i(x). Derivative of a_i(x) is a_i. So this is the sum(i=1 to n) of a_i.
