Let's say you and a friend went to the mall together. You both bought items at several different stores. When the two of you got back to your house and started looking through your purchases, your friend came across some loose change at the bottom of one of the bags. You said it was yours. Your friend said it was hers. Before the argument got too heated, your friend said she had an idea for how to settle the problem. Clues: Twenty coins Pennies and Nickels only Total value 48¢
Project: Share a problem and solution with a family member. Determine the number of solutions to a linear system. Solve a linear system using modeling, guess and check, graphing, and/or algebraic methods. Check the solution to a linear system. Report on your findings.
you know what... for 48cents... is there really a need to fight about it? I mean, you can barely get a candy for that these days =)
Exactly what I'm saying! LOL @jdoe0001
well, I have an idea myself, let her have it :)
and then both of you enjoy the buys and get some nachos and cheese
so you have 20 coins so I gather to settle the matter, you'd just split it in half so, how many nickels and pennies each one gets? we dunno how many nickels and pennies there are we do know that pennies and nickels coins SUM = 20 we also know that the dollar amount of the pennies and nickels SUM = 48 so p = pennies = 1c n = nickels = 5c p + n = 20 1p + 5n = 48 so, if you were to solve the 1st equation for say "p", what would it look like?
