graph each absolute value inequality y>|x+2| I know how to graph it but I also have to shade it but how do I know where to shade it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you read it "y is greater than |x+2|", so you shade any values greater than the line determined by |x+2| (up).

Ok, but how do you know which side is supposed to be shaded? Do you use a formula or is there some type of technique?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the direction that the sign opens. y>x means y is greater than x y<x means y is less than x if the mouth opens toward the y, you shade above the line, if it opens away from the y, you shade below the line.

Ok, thanks a lot.
