the wording is not totally clear, but I think they mean 1/6 of all of the pizza is left over they start with 9 pizzas, each cut into 8 pieces. you have a total of 9*8= 72 pieces how many pieces are left over ? (this is step 1 to finding the answer)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait im confused

OpenStudy (phi):

you agree you have 72 pieces of pizza at the start ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (phi):

a pizza is divided into 8 slices. if you have 1 pizza you will have 8 slices if you have 2 pizzas, you will have 16 slices (twice as many) if you have 3 pizzas.... 24 slices finally 9 pizzas will have 9*8 = 72 slices

OpenStudy (phi):

now at the end of the party you have 1/6 of the slices left over. How many slices is that ?

OpenStudy (phi):

you will have 1/6 of 72 slices in "math" that is 1/6 * 72

OpenStudy (anonymous):

12

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. now he wants to divide the 12 slices evenly among 4 people how many slices per person ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. the fast way is say 12 divided into 4 parts or 12/4 = 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ooooo thank you:)
