Well for starters, it adds more "fun" when reading. There are many different types of figurative language, and each one adds it's own insight to the passage. Without figurative language, your paper would be boring, and uninteresting. With figurative language, like imagery, metaphors, personification, and similes, it adds a whole new depth to what you're reading. Does that make sense? I hope that helps...
