Well, there were a lot of things that weren't part of the early Christian church back then. Unless you have a list of choices to pick from, anything is possible.

The Holy Roman Empire. That was founded in 962, long after Christianity had become established. On the other hand, bishops were part of the Church from the very beginning. The apostles were considered the first bishops, and St. Peter is generally considered the first supreme pontiff, or what we now call the pope.
