The Difference between inhalation and respiration?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in layman's terms, both refer to the same act of inhalation and exhalation of oxygen and carbon dioxide respectively. but if you want to be more precise... breathing is the PHYSICAL act of respiration. I.e. the inhaling of air and the exhaling of air is breathing. that's it. respiration is a CHEMICAL process where glucose or some other organic substance such as lipids are oxidised in a series of metabolic reactions to produce ATP for energy. but to be more accurate, you would call it tissue or cellular respiration.
