OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

i know the answer if you realy need help?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

o.o please help!

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

This is for the beggining of the book right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im pretty sure

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

Marilyn Lee Cross caused multiple problems/conflicts in this story. Even though she caused problems she wasnt a bad person. The first conflict all started when she stowed away on the EDS ship which the law specifically states that if there are any stowaways the pilot of the EDS must jettison or throw away the stowaway into space. The reason for which you will figure out is that there is only enough fuel in the EDS to carry the cargo and the pilot. Adding any extra weight will cause the EDS to ultimately run out of fuel causing both the pilot and the stowaway to die.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you! <3 do you mind helping me out with a few others? :3

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

In this case the EDS was carrying important cargo that would save a group of men on a planet.... so if Marilyn stayed not only would the Pilot and her die but the men on the planet would die also.

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

Hit me!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Create a paraphrase of the following sentence from “The Cold Equations”: She held the letters out to him. "Will you take care of these and see that they're enveloped and mailed?"

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

I encourage you to fully read the book yourself. It is very good!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am reading it but I accidentally left and it wont let me go back :[

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol really I wanted to throw my laptop because I knew it wouldnt let me go back! D:

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

First off so i know you understand the basic idea of the test and so that i dont do everything for you. What would be your definition of a paraphrase? and give an example if you would.

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

i know the feeling!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to express the meaning of (the writer or speaker or something written or spoken) and :3

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

Ok so if a paraphrase of something is essentially the writers theme of something what do you think would be the meaning of the sentence "Will you take care of these and see that they're enveloped and mailed?" To give some backround info. Marilyn said this to the EDS pilot when she knew that her death was inevitable. As i said in the first answer that the law states that if there are any stowaways the pilot of the EDS must jettison or throw away the stowaway into space. Knowing this Marilyn creates letters to her family saying goodbye and thanking them for her short lived life. Now that you have the backround info. i want you to answer the question! : )

OpenStudy (anonymous):

laptop froze :P Can you take care of these envelopes and see if they are mailed? ....Would that work?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Will you take care of these for me and see if envelopes and see if they are mailed and enveloped?

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

Is She held the letters out to him. the sentence you are paraphrasing?

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

um no :P

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

Then whats the question?

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

word for word

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Create a paraphrase of the following sentence from “The Cold Equations”: She held the letters out to him. "Will you take care of these and see that they're enveloped and mailed?"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"Will you take care of these and see that they're enveloped and mailed?"

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

i said in my answer that i want you to answer it yourself. Look back at my backround information and you should be able to come up with an answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would this be an okay answer...Can you take care of these for me while I'm gone and see if the envelopes are mailed and enveloped?

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

Essentaily what Marilyn is asking the pilot to do is to envolope and mail the letters himself when she dies.

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

since the pilot is the only one who has the capability of sending the letters to her family.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I should take out while i'm gone then? :3 and just use the rest?

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

also you said see IF the envolopes are mailed. Since she is giving the letters (envolopes) to the pilot to mail himself it should say .......see THAT you mail......

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks I really appreciate your help! do you have time to help me out with other questions? c:

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

How many?

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

I can do one more. thats it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3 questions.. 2 are paraphrasing and one is asking for a 3 sentence summary

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

ask the summary

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

since we just did paraphrasing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Create an accurate summary of the pilot and his reasons for obeying the rules of the EDS. Provide your answer in two to three sentences :]

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

This all goes back to what i said originally When Marilyn stowed away on the EDS ship she did not know the the law specifically states that if there are any stowaways the pilot of the EDS must jettison or throw away the stowaway into space. The REASON is that there is only enough fuel in the EDS to carry the cargo and the pilot. Adding any extra weight will cause the EDS to ultimately run out of fuel causing both the pilot and the stowaway to die. The EDS sadly was carrying IMPORTANT cargo that would save a group of men on a planet.... so if Marilyn stayed not only would the Pilot, and her die, but the men on the planet would die also. If the pilot allowed Marilyn to stay everyone would die. In his mind he thought it was better to have one die then to have everyone die. The only way he could go act upon his thoughts were to obey the rules of an EDS.

OpenStudy (jacobbenvenutty):

I hope that i helped you today and that you pass the test.... I would realy appreciate if you gave me a medal/best response to my answers. Thank you!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I will you helped me lots today and helped me understand the story better thanks!
