How do you subtract 6- 4 1/2? Medal for the best explanation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

six minus four is two two minus one half is one and a half

OpenStudy (wolfe8):

Since one of them a fraction, you'll have to change the other one into one as well. A whole number is just the number over 1. So here you have 6/1. 4 1/2 is a mixed number, you'll want to change it into an irrational fraction. Then carry out fraction subtraction as usual by getting a common denominator and so on.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok first you have look at the number this way 6-4.5 which will give you 1.5 as the answer.
