to solve this sytem for x and y proceed as follows: multiply the first equation by -3 and the second by 2 (dont forget to multiply each term) then add the 2 new equation, - this will eliminate the terms in y solve the resulting equation for x finally plug in this value of x into one of the original equations and solve for y

but when I multiply the second equation by 2, the 6's still dont get canceled out. because -6-6=-12
