okay so i was looking into C and at a sorting function called shellsort for(gap=n/2;gap>0:gap/=2) what does the operator '/=' mean or do ?

gap = gap/2 is the same as gap /= 2 Same with the shortcuts for others. This has a lost of some ones you find in a lot of languages: http://bioportal.weizmann.ac.il/course/prog2/tutorial/java/nutsandbolts/assignment.html
