OpenStudy (math2400):

ok can't figure this one out. How do i get the b value?? **postin pic

OpenStudy (math2400):

Directrix (directrix):

By "b," do you mean the slope of the tangent line?

OpenStudy (math2400):

yes here's the answerL(x)=10x-13 and i got all those values except the 13 (which is the b value, y=mx+b)

Directrix (directrix):

I was looking at these instructions. Let's follow them. http://www.math.brown.edu/UTRA/tangentline.html

Directrix (directrix):

Did you get y' = 3x² -2 for the first derivative equation?

Directrix (directrix):

I agree that the slope of L(x) = 10.

Directrix (directrix):

Did you get (2, 7) at the point of tangency?

Directrix (directrix):

y - 7 = 10( x - 2) and then ... ? @Math2400

OpenStudy (math2400):

ohhh i thout i was trying to use y=mx+b to solve for b cuz that's what someone suggested when i asked the same question earlier. Thank you sooo much!!

Directrix (directrix):

You are welcome.
