Is multiplying two functions, such as (fg)(x) the same as compositing then into f(g(x))?

OpenStudy (nory):

In general, no.

Here is an example:

OpenStudy (azureilai):

Well, I am mostly confused on how to multiply two functions together. I have f(x)= 2x-5, and g(x)=2-x. My teacher didn't explain how to multiply them so I was wondering if it is the same as compositing them,

OpenStudy (nory):

Multiply the expressions for the two functions. In this case, (2x-5)(2-x).

OpenStudy (azureilai):

Oh ok. thanks

OpenStudy (nory):

No problem.
