M is the midpoint of AB. AM = 5x-2. MB = 9x-31. Find x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i could be wrong, but cant you just set the two equations equal to each other because they are of equal length, due to the fact that they both share M, which is the midpoint of AB?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and you have AM = 5x-2 and MB = 9x-31 besides that,you have: \( \Large {AM=MB} \)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

any idea?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well my answer is 7.25 but now it's saying the same equation but AB = 9x-31.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And AM = 5x-2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so AB=9x-1 not MB?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, and I did the first equation, so x = 7.25
