Find the area of an equilateral triangle with a side of 6 inches.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Area of an equilateral triangle = root3 / 4 *s^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If we have ABC AB=AC=BC OK ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

where s is the length of the side of the triangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Area of a euilateral triangle = (root 3/4)*side^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

substitute side into the euation and get the area

OpenStudy (anonymous):

look: |dw:1063326996390:dw| We have : Bm=Cm

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so we have cm=3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And now we have :|dw:1063327126023:dw|

@sarahg95:Got it ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep thank you very much!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

First in since the triangle is an equilateral triangle, all sides are equal, and thus each side is 6. Also that means that all the angles of the triangle are congruent, and in since a triangle must have 180 degrees, we divide 180 by 3 and get 60. Thus each angle is 60. Then we use the area formula. K= .5 AB Sine C K = .5 6(6) Sine 60 K= 15.5

@sarahg95 : No problem ? Can u find it ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@UditKulka : I think your way is realy right but we can have another ways too :) Thank u friend :) You always help every one :)
