Can someone please tell me if my Answer correct ill give a metal. What is the slope of the line that passes through the given Points? (2,12) and (6,11) Answer: 1/4

OpenStudy (senkai):

Actually, I think it would be -1/4, not 1/4. y2 - y1 / x2 - x1 = slope, so: 11 - 12 / 6 - 2, which simplifies into -1/4.

Oh so I forgot the negative sign... So when you have number with a negative sign in it how would you set that up ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

My question oion the same but this one has negatives signs in it ( 6,-1) and (-3, -1)

OpenStudy (senkai):

Oh, you would do the same. y2 - y1 / x2 - x1 for slope. So, it would be: -1 - (-1) / -3 - 6. You can't subtract negatives, so the two negative signs in the first part will cancel out, and you will get -1 + 1, which is 0. The second part, you switch the minus sign to a plus sign, and make the 6 a negative, to get - 3 + (-6), which is (-9). Your answer would be 0/-9, so your slope would be undefined.
