0 < [ x -5 ] < 1/2

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

maybe it's just me... .but ... not sure I get it... what does it mean by [ x -5 ], is just a plain grouping or a floor() ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your solving the inequality

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

so, it's just 0 < x-5 < 1/2 then?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

say if you had only x-5 < 1/2 how would you isolate "x"?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

is really the same as solving an equation, the only difference is that in an equation, you have left-side and right-side, and anything you apply to one you apply to both in this case, you have left-side, middle-side, right-side and anything you do to one, you apply to all 3 so if you have to say ADD 5 to get rid of it in the middle you add it to the ALL SIDES, to the left-side and right-side and middle side
