Could you please be more specific on what you need help on?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Cross-multiplication works great.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

e.g. given a/b = c/d --> ad = bc. Then go from there.

Here's an example. Solve the proportion: \( \dfrac{12}{19} = \dfrac{x}{76} \) Cross multiply: \(19x = 12(76)\) \(19x = 912\) Now divide both sides by 19: \(\dfrac{19x}{19} = \dfrac{912}{19} \) \(x = 48\)

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Here's a short cut: Start with the number on the same fraction as the variable. Multiply diagonally. Divide vertically. It always works no matter where the variable is. |dw:1379019206400:dw|
