OpenStudy (kewlgeek555):

How does the direction of the electric current, moving across a battery powered device, differ from the direction of travel in the AC current sent to homes and businesses?

OpenStudy (radar):

It is consistent in direction when supplied by the battery but periodically changes direction when supplied by an alternating voltage source (AC). Some typical frequencies for AC are 60 Hz, 50 Hz, 400 Hz and many others in converters etc.
