For the following system, if you isolated x in the first equation to use the Substitution Method, what expression would you substitute into the second equation? −x + 2y = 9 4x + 5y = 9 −9 + 2y −9 − 2y 9 − 2y 9 + 2y

I'm sure you've tried it out on your own first, so what did you get so far?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

so isolate "x" in the 1st one then :) what does it give you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I got 9-2y

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

9-2y? hmmm what's 9-2y equals to?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

when they say , isolate "x", it means positive "x", no " - x " btw
