I think that the answer to 3 is that the colonists had brought their starvation and  "turf war" with the indians on them selves because if they hadn't attacked the indians in the first place none of the "turf war" would have happened in the first place. As for the starvation i think that instead of thinking of how to make a profit they should have thought about how to save themselves first.
