Hi, Can somebody please help me with Domain & Range?!?!?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what exactly do you need help with?

OpenStudy (ohmaigosshh):

I need help with solving equations and graphing them. For Ex.

OpenStudy (ohmaigosshh):

How will i find out the domain and range of this?

sam (.sam.):

Is the scale for a box is 1?

sam (.sam.):

Okay its really simple, for domain, look at the x-axis, the whole graph spans from -2 to 2 am I right?

OpenStudy (ohmaigosshh):

Yes

sam (.sam.):

Wait

sam (.sam.):

For domain, look at the x-axis, it's actually goes from -infinity to infinity, so the domain would be all real numbers

OpenStudy (ohmaigosshh):

Ok, I get that part. But what about range?

sam (.sam.):

For range, look at the y-axis, it starts from 4 to negative infinity. so, The range is \[\left\{ y \in \mathbb{R} : y \leq 4 \right\}\] This means: y is real, and y is less than or equal to 4. It's not y "<" 4 because the graph is touching y-axis at 4

OpenStudy (ohmaigosshh):

ohhh.... i get it now... thanks sam :)

sam (.sam.):

\[y \leq 4 ~~\text{Includes 4}\] \[y < 4 ~~\text{Excludes 4}\]

sam (.sam.):

yw
