why are peer reviews important

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Peer reviews ensure that an experiment is valid. In other words, if one scientist does an experiment and discovers some thing they think is profound and life changing, if no one else can reproduce their results then the first scientist was likely in error. So basically it's to prevent lab error/misrepresentation of data.
