medal for the best answer

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first find the area for the triangle so base times height divided by 1/2

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

so 14x5=70 and if I divide it by 2 then it will be 35. but let me see the options

OpenStudy (anonymous):

answer 136 so the area of triangle is 8 times 6 divided by 1/2 = 24 area of rectangle is 14 times 8=112 112+24=136

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just try length times width. 14*8= ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so do i get another medal...????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait, the answer is 130.

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

but how do you have to multiply 8x6?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

actually Loveiskey18 is correct, I saw the answer so I had to give the medal. now how did you get 130???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, 14*8=112, then 8+10 = 130. Trust me, it does not seem correct but it is.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

your right i forgot about the other triangle so the small triangle you would do 3times4 which would be 12 and divide it by 1/2=6 then you would do 136-6=130 sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just took the length and width of both triangles. :)

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

what do you mean by 8+10?

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

I don't get how you added 8+10 and then got 130. can you please explain this to me more clearly. I tend to ask questions because I need to know how a person got that answer. sorry if im annoying you.. :/

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

@Loveiskey18

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You are not, it's okay I am the same way :

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the area of the WHOLE rectangle is 14*8=112 area of the SMALL triangle 3*4=12/2=6 area of the BIG triangle 8*6=46/2=24 area of BIG triangle (24) + area of WHOLE rectangle (112) equals 136 then area of WHOLE rectangle and area of BIG triangle combined (112) - area of small triangle (6) equals 130 ANSWER=130

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, first I multiplied 14 and 8 and got 112, then added 8 and 10 and got 18, add those up and you get 130. I calculated the length and width of both triangles.

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

@seirrabel how did you get 3x4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the small triangle so |dw:1379131254205:dw| since the right side of the rectangle equals 8 then the other side dose to and since the other side equals 5 then that means the little side of the small triangle equals 3 do you understand

OpenStudy (calculusxy):

I understand so so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry don't look at my drawing i messed up and then since ten is the side of the bottom and 14 is the side of the top you would know that the hypotenuse of the small triangle would be 4 DON'T FORGET THIS|dw:1379131580927:dw|
