4x - y = 8 -8x + 2y = -5 i tried solving it and didn't get a solution. just wanted to double check.

you're correct... the 2 lines are parallel

@campbell_st what about 2x – 4y = 12 3x – 6y = 21

again... the 1st equation times 1.5 gives the 2nd equation... all that is different is the right hand side... 18 v 21 hope this makes sense
