OpenStudy (katherinesmith):
3x + 4y =8
-2x + 5y = 3
OpenStudy (katherinesmith):
the struggle is real. i keep getting weird numbers.
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
u wanto solve all the way,
or u just wanto knw whether these have solutions or not ?
OpenStudy (katherinesmith):
i have to solve all the way
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
ok, lets do it by elimination method

ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
in elimination method,
first step is to make the x coefficients same for both equations
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
3x + 4y =8
-2x + 5y = 3
how do we make them same ?
OpenStudy (katherinesmith):
okay... let me try and you correct me if this is wrong. so i do
5[3x + 4y =8]
-4[-2x + 5y =3]
is that right
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
that works !! keep going :)
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
you're eliminating y, i can see good :)

OpenStudy (katherinesmith):
15x + 20y = 40
8x + -20y = -12
OpenStudy (katherinesmith):
23x + 0y = 28
OpenStudy (katherinesmith):
see now i have a weird number
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
get use to weird numbers
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
23x + 0y = 28
23x = 28
x = 28/23

OpenStudy (katherinesmith):
x = 1.217
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
that is all it means, x is 28/23
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
now find y, by picking some equation, and substituting x = 28/23
OpenStudy (katherinesmith):
i got y = 1.0875
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):

good job !!
OpenStudy (katherinesmith):
WEIRD
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
lol
ganeshie8 (ganeshie8):
id leave them in fraction part
x = 28/23
y = 25/23
