OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

The floor area of a home is 1827 square feet. Find this area in square meters.

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

April115 this person probably wants to know how to do this without the aid of a converter, it is a valid question.

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

1 foot = 0.3048 meters note: 1 square foot = 0.3048 square meters so you have, 1827 square feet To convert you simply need to do is set up a ratio where square feet cancel out and you are left with meters and multiply it by your measurement for example: I have 33 square meters and I want to convert that to square feet, I listed above what 1 meter is in feet so set up a ratio, \[\frac{1ft^2}{0.3048m^2}*33m^2 = 108.26ft^2\] Notice how m^3 cancels out and you are just left with feet

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

this works with all units btw

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

do you follow?

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

its my first time doing this problem on my own so bear with me please

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

just set it up like I did above

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

but remember the units have to divide out

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

you should be left with the units you want on the denominator

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

the units you want to cancel have to divide out

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

first write the ratio with the units you want to cancel in the denominator and the units you want to be left with in the numerator

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

then multiply that ratio by your measurement

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

Read what I wrote.

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

i did

OpenStudy (toxicsugar22):

can you just show me once and i will understand this one

OpenStudy (australopithecus):

I will give you another example, 1L = 1000mL I measured 30mL and I want the units in litres so I set up my ratio, |dw:1379201308625:dw|
