Factor y^2-13y+12

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(y-12)(y-1)

how did you get it with 2 negatives my teacher said u had to have a + and - we haven't learned 2 negatives

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats not how it works. So the way you should think about it is what two numbers add up to -13 and when I multiply them I get positive 12? Then you can just fill in the blanks (y- )(y- ).

thank you so much
