need help with a true or false question - medal will be awarded
the equation of a line with the slope \[m = -\frac{ 1 }{ 4 }\] and including the point (3, 5) is \[y = -\frac{ 1 }{ 4 }x - 4\]
@phi i've struggled with this one all night and haven't received any input. if you have a second, please help!
you want to find b of y = mx + b. to do that you need to plug in the point (3,5) and you're given the slope. so:\[5 = -\frac{ 1 }{ 4 }(3) + b\]\[b = 5 + \frac{ 3 }{ 4 } = \frac{ 23 }{ 4 }\] so:\[y = -\frac{ 1 }{ 4 }x + \frac{ 23 }{ 4 }\]
so false?
yes. my bad :P
haha it's fine. thank you.
It looks like you have the answer... but no need to struggle. When they ask if a point is on the line (or a line "includes" a point) you replace the x and y in the equation with the numbers they give you in (3,5) x is the first number and y is the 2nd then simplify and see if the equation is true.
i think i understand. now i have a new question.
