Someone please help me, no one in my family knows how to do this. (It's attached)

p + n = 20 --> n = 20 - p

now sub 20 - p in for n in the 1st equation
.01p + .05(20 - p) = .48 (distribute through the parenthesis)
.01p + 1 - .05p = .48 (combine like terms)
-.04p + 1 = .48 (subtract 1 from both sides)
-.04p = .48 - 1 (combine like terms)
-.04p = -.52 (now divide by -.04)
p = -.52/-.04
p = 13

now sub 13 in for p in the 2nd equation
p + n = 20
13 + n = 20
n = 20 - 13
n = 7

check...
.01p + .05n = .48
.01(13) + .05(7) = .48
.13 + .35 = .48
.48 = .48 (correct)

There are 7 nickels and 13 pennies
