Explanation of the groups in your community and how they differ

In general, this would be organized meetings of some sort inside a community.  For example, alcoholics anonymous is a form of community group based addition support.  Another community group could be a bunch of parents with young kids that get together so that their kids can play and they can take advantage of having more than one parent watching.  

The context could also change with the field of study.  Psychology, sociology, and anthropology all use similar terms or the same words, but with slightly different meanings.

They are referring to the various contingents, or "cliques" in your community. For instance, there may be gangs, scientists, rich snobby people, the musicians, etc . Or the cultures. There are be different ethnic groups in your community, and oftentimes, their tenets chafe against or converge with one another,
