Can scientists who never met contribute to the same scientific knowledge, theory or law? Why?

Well, Zeno made a paradox in Ancient Greece that challenged science. The first person to publish a good answer to him was Newton, who did this in England. Think about the distance in both time and space between the two events and you should have a good answer. (The paradox was proof that there was no motion and the answer was Calculus.)
