You have to first recognise that m∠2 = m∠4 = m∠5. You are given that m∠4 = 12x + 5 and m∠5 = 8x + 17. Just equate the two and solve for 'x': 12x + 5 = 8x + 17 => 4x = 12 => x = 3 Plug x = 3 back in to one of the equations and you'll have your answer.
