What happens to a virus that is not attached to a host?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The host cell lyses, which means the host cell burst and is killed.

What? I thought it was like crystallization and stuff..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, if the virus is not attached to the host, the host dies leaving the virus still in your body, it does not spread anymore now that the host is dead, it just stays there
