Identify intervals on which the function is increasing, decreasing, or constant. g(x) = 2 - (x - 7)^2 Increasing: x < 2; decreasing: x > 2 Increasing: x < -7; decreasing: x > -7 Increasing: x < 7; decreasing: x > 7 Increasing: x > 2; decreasing: x < 2 I graphed this on my calculator and I don't understand.

is this calculus? or pre-calculus?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pre-calc!

your parabola is in the form of p(x) = (x-h)^2 + k you know it opens downwards and that the vertex is at (7, 2) |dw:1379371895562:dw| can you make any assumptions?

x = 7 gives the maximum value. it decreases after 7 and it increases up to 2 before 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohh I see. That makes sense!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

glad it does :)
