How do I solve these?

3x + 2 = 5x – 6
2x – 2 = 8
The quantity of x plus 1, divided by 5 equals the quantity of 2x minus 2, divided by 6

okay so what you want to do is have the the variable all on one side. (for me) it's easier to have a positive variable, but you can have a negative one, either or works fine. since the variable should be on one side you should subtract 3x from 5x. that's moving it to the right side. you should have
2 = 2x - 6
now that the variable is on one side, you have to get the non variable on the other side. (typically you would have like terms on different sides) you must add -6 to 2. do the opposite of what the sign is before the number
8=2x
since 2x is multiply two, you have to do the opposite. 8 divided by two equals 4.
4=x

for 2x-2=8 I would add 2 to both sides? so itd be 2x=10 then divide 10 by 2 and get 5 so x = 5?

its okay! don't be sorry, we're all here for help. division problems are little more challenging. Okay so
the quantity of x plus one. you already know that its x + 1 and it says divided by 5.
that's going to be (x+1 / 5 )
the next part says 2x -2 divided by 6. thats (2x-2 / 6)
you have to cancel out the the division by multiplying the denominator. so that's gonna be
and that side will just be 2x -2.
you do the same for the other division problem so its and it's cancelled out. then its just
2x - 2 = x + 1
