Use the four functions below for this question: f(x)--the graph h(x) g(x) g(x) = 3x − 4 h(x) Kelly had 4 apples in her kitchen on Monday. On Tuesday, only 1 was left. j(x) x −2 2 6 j(x) -2 10 22 Compare and contrast these four functions using complete sentences. Focus on the slope and y-intercept first, and then on any additional properties of each function.
@sarahhkim98
um i can't read the functions. can you retype them different or is that what it looks like on your homework?
g(x)=3x-4 h(x): Kelly had 4 apples in her kitchen on Monday. On Tuesday, only 1 was left. j(x) |dw:1379378405131:dw|
k so the equations are g(x)=3x -4 h(x)= -3x + 7 and j(x)=3x + 4 all in order. they all have the same slope except h(x) is flipped. because it's negative it's going from top left down to right bottom. the other two are positive slopes so its from bottom left to top right. j(x) has a y intercept of 4 and it starts in the middle between g(x) and h(x). h(x) has the highest y intercept and g(x) has the lowest
Okay dumb question here...how did you get the equation for j(x)
okay well if you break it down, it's increasing by 3 so thats how you get the slope. the chart shows as -2, 2, and 6 , but if you were ot make it like -2, -1, 0 , 1 ,2, 3, 4, 6, the y that corresponds with the x would increase by 3. the 4 is the y intercept, which means when x is 0, y equals 4
oh okay that makes sense...so that's all?
what about the f(x) graph???
@sarahhkim98 the fx graph what about that ??
