Determine whether y varies directly with x. If so, what is the constant of variation and the function rule?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x: 4, 6, 10 y: -6, -9, -15

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let y=k times x, so when y=-6 we have x = 4 , solve for k , you get k=-3/2, which is same for all cases, try to prove them based on that you can say y is proportional to x , or y varies directly with respect to x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is that it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the constant variation is -3/2?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no you need to prove that for all cases , so when y=-15 and x=10 , you should prove that k=-3/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

exactly you got it right ! great

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok! I get it
