You are traveling on an airplane. The velocity of the plane with respect to the air is 150 m/s due east. The velocity of the air with respect to the ground is 37 m/s at an angle of 30° west of due north. What is the heading of the plane with respect to the ground? (Let 0° represent due north, 90° represents due east)

So I like drawings and it would be best to draw this

|dw:1379450181934:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so this is really a form of vector addition

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you need the x and y components of the wind or in this case the north and east components

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and then you would add that to the vector of the airplane

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and that is how you would get your answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do you know how to do vector addition or do you need help with that?
