adding sig fig! 94.00 15 182.113= 291.113... when is the decimal 3 places to the right when its not the smallest decimal placement? shouldnt it be 2 so 29. because of .00?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

you have to express the answer in terms of the number given with the least amount of significant figures. which would be 2 sig figs (because 15).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but why is the decimal in the answer where it is?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

is that answer they gave you in the back of the book?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (aaronq):

that's odd. The amount of sig figs in the answer should be equal to the number with least sig figs. 291.113 =\( 2.9*10^2\) should be the answer

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much for helping btw

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay! thats what I said!

OpenStudy (aaronq):

yeah, i don't see why that would be the answer. Maybe it's mistake?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how did you get 10 to the second? and yeah, I think so!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they said in the book, the answer is 291.113. so you'd look to see if you round, in which you dont. so it would be = 291

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe its bc 15 didnt have any decm place?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

\(10^2\) implies that the decimal point is moving 2 spaces to the right. as in \(6.0*10^5=600,000\)

OpenStudy (aaronq):

um even so, 94.00 would be the least amount of sig figs, and the answer would be 291.11

OpenStudy (aaronq):

no sorry, 291.1 because 4 sig figs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OH! okay. thank you so much!!! youre the best

OpenStudy (aaronq):

lol no problem !
