sohcahtoa

tan(theta)=opp/adj
OpenStudy (katherinesmith):
how do i set that up
OpenStudy (anonymous):
you have theta which is the angle, you have the adjacent side so look for the opposite side which is YZ

the 90 degree angle or the 50 degree? can you just set up the numbers
OpenStudy (anonymous):
haha so you didnt just forget the formula but here it you use tan(50) = opp/4.5 now you solve for opp which means opposite and you get opp = tan(50)/4.5 whatever that is
OpenStudy (katherinesmith):
i didn't know what angle you were basing it all off of. thanks
OpenStudy (katherinesmith):
that actually doesn't give me any of the possible answers
OpenStudy (anonymous):
make sure your calculator is on degrees not radians

tan(50)/4.5 gives me 0.26483413168
OpenStudy (katherinesmith):
it is on degrees. i tried it on degrees and radians
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh hahahaha my bad i solved for opp the wrong way you multiply not divide so you get tan(50)*4.5
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh and just fyi you cant use the 90 degree angle to solve for sides using sohcahtoa
